So for the debut By The Sign Of The Spyglass album review I felt it would be good to start with a recent release, but also a debut release for the band themselves. Starting off proceedings I'll be looking at the startling Sickness, the debut album of the relentless Essex hardcore band Create To Inspire.
There's a lot of trepidation that surrounds any release, let alone a debut full-length album, but these boys have handled their entrance with sublime grace and confidence. Not at all surprising, mind you!! Anyone familiar with the band will know their relentless nature, their ability to hook and transfix listeners, as well as the brilliant pair of EP's: Halfway Home and Home Is Where My Heart Dies.
If you're looking music to touch your soul and bring tears to your eyes, this is it. Sean Midson's ability to place his finger on the pulse of an issue and discuss it in the most cathartic of ways is evident once again. Structurally, musically, lyrically, it has it all. I honestly don't believe that I've heard such a well rounded piece of music on all fronts! It's beauty is in both it's brutality and sweetness which swim and swap places throughout the album.
For all that has already come from Create To Inspire, and within that there is some truly, truly inspiring music, there is also much more to come!
So what are the scores, George Dawes?
For a debut album of epic proportions: 8/10
Top Picks: Agony, Cope, Adjust
Sickness was released on May 26th via Basick Records
