So... making up for a little lost time here and catching up with a few things from the end of last year and taking a look back at Dream State's infectious single White Lies. Caught this toward the latter end of December but it really stuck! Let's get in to it.
Good, solid riffs alongside some interesting and varied vocals from vocalist CJ make White Lies a really heart-thumping post-hardcore/punk song. The strong guitars light the song up with an energy that is shared with the vocals, the song is varied whilst still keeping up its quick pace, essential really but still worth noting, and the writing of course has all the hooks needed to keep you entertained throughout. 10 years ago, this would have been the hottest thing on the continent, alas now it's simply a solid single, not that that's anything to be sniffed at! Bands and songs like this can often do something wrong to ruin and make the track tacky but they've held firm here.
I guess what I mean is, there have been a lot of good singles that gotten a lot of views, and then the band have fallen by the wayside because of lack lustre follow ups.Now I want to see MORE! Bigger, badder, more interesting and most importantly I think they need to challenge themselves. This may come with a full release and I believe they can do it but that remains to be seen.
But anyway, White Lies. Great track, good lyrics and riffs that'll have you jumping like a 14 year old who's had too many Fantas. I'm looking forward to their next. Laters!
