So while I've been looking at some new EP's lately, I came across a favourite of mine that deserves some attention. I found the Manchester-made HERITAGE on a quiet sunday night two years ago at the Riverside, Sheffield supporting Dayseeker on their European/UK tour. While we're still awaiting their first album, we can certainly enjoy their EP: Apathetic Youth.
Dark, agitated and menacing HERITAGE throw a more sinister spin on the hardcore genre with Apathetic Youth. Full of political distaste and intertwined with jarring and contrasting guitarwork, particularly in the song Lifeless, you truly feel the chaos-fuelled anger of Jake Huxley's lyrics.
Worthy of note is the band's ability to change it up and not be afraid of trying some different things. Deceived is a lovely change of pace at track #4 and brings all five songs together nicely and completely. All in all the EP is solid and well-rounded, I'm very interested to see what they do with the space a full length would give them to express themselves.
Modern problems a la HERITAGE: 7/10
Top picks: Awake, Deceived.
Apathetic Youth was released September 7th 2015:
