Northlane - Vultures

Northlane have delivered for us a new single; Vultures. It's been more than a year since the Sydney-based Metalcorer's brought us Mesmer so it's definitely about time that we were treated to something new, but there's something different about what they've brought to the table.

Right let's get one thing straight here - WHERE HAS THIS NORTHLANE BEEN?

Ferocious, unrelenting, dark, pacy and lyrically thought-provoking. I'm sure that it's fair to say that Northlane  have been all these things in the past but I'm certain in saying that this is the darkest they have gone yet!

Vocalist Marcus Bridge has spoken about the message and meaning behind the song - that it tells us not to allow others to create our self-image, to not allow others to decide our future, our fate and that no one can tell us who we are but ourselves.

This dark, moody and aggressive piece suits them VERY well and long may it continue. But it's not just this, it has so much more energy than the work of their last two albums; their writing has always been good and Marcus is certainly a good vocalist, there's nothing to doubt there, but it always felt so restrained.

I'm not one to shy away from the opinion that Northlane haven't been the same since the departure of Adrian and I was unconvinced both by Mesmer and Node, but this, this is what I've been waiting to see since Rot (forever a glimpse of what could have been). It would also be fair to say that I had an opinion on what I thought they should have done with those last two albums, not that there weren't good songs on there, it just never felt adventurous enough, they never seemed to be really pushing the boat out and testing themselves. It felt safe.

Perhaps the problem across those last two albums, after-all, was Marcus finding his feet, feeling his way and place into the band until it truly felt like his own, and here we're finally seeing the product of Marcus truly at the helm and perhaps it's with his fire they plan to set the world alight.
