Being introduced to new bands is strangely uncommon for me, maybe because I myself spend more time than most hunting down new and exciting music and beat people to it or maybe I'm simply looking in the wrong places. Well Tuesday night I was in EXACTLY the right place. I'm of course speaking about the killer Kingdom Of Giants.
As it turned out Tuesday night's antics at Derby's The Hairy Dog was actually the first show Kingdom Of Giants had ever played in the UK, not that you would have thought so. For a band so relatively early in its career they don't half look comfortable, not least because of the strength of their most recent release All The Hell You've Got To Spare.
The California-based metalcore outfit certainly have a grasp on the genre, bringing all of the power and aggression which has become synonymous with metalcore over the past decade, as well the diversity of Dana Willax's vocal style, able to rip roaring screams as well as utilise his great singing vocal tone. All of this complimenting the melodic leads and echoes of synthesised atmospherics bring the whole piece together into a very well written album.
With that said you certainly hear the influence of some of their local olders like Fit For A King and even The Black Dahlia Murder. Carefully drawing influence and integrating it into their style, for me, has taken this album to a level not seen in their work previously.
Kindgom Of Giants are currently touring the UK with support from Our Hollow, Our Home and Create To Inspire. Be sure to get yourself down to a show and catch these guys before their first UK run ends on the 21st October.
How much Hell do you actually have to spare??
